PSI Holds Jam-Packed Winter 2020 Meeting

The PSI Chapter’s Feb. 20 winter meeting in Nashville, Tenn., was chock-full of action, including the election of new officers for the 2020-2022 term, approval of changes to the PSI Bylaws, a dedication to outgoing PSI President Leonard Zeid, presentations by two paper market experts, and an evening networking dinner and party.

The chapter’s newly elected officers are: President—Linda Leone, WestRock (Dunkirk, N.Y.); Vice President—Shawn State, Pratt Recycling (Conyers, Ga.); and Secretary/Treasurer—Tamara Mayberry, Pioneer Industries International (Itasca, Ill.).

PSI also approved changes to two sections of its bylaws—Section 5.02 Executive Committee and Section 5.09 Committee Chairs.

After announcing the new slate of officers, who will begin their terms after the ISRI convention in late April, PSI recognized outgoing PSI President Leonard Zeid for his dedication and service to the chapter and the paper recycling industry over many years. Past PSI President Nini Krever offered a heartfelt dedication to Zeid and presented him with two gifts from the chapter—a plaque commemorating his service and a suitcase.

After completing its chapter business, PSI introduced two market experts from Fastmarkets RISI—Hannah Zhao, senior economist, recovered paper, and Greg Rudder, managing editor of PPI Pulp & Paper Week. Zhao reviewed global recovered paper market trends, with a focus on Asia, while Rudder examined U.S. containerboard trends and how they could affect demand for recovered paper going forward.

The PSI event continued into the evening with a dinner and party at B.B. King’s Blues Club in downtown Nashville, where attendees networked and socialized while enjoying a buffet of Southern specialties, a private bar, and live music by bluesman Carl Stewart.
