PSI Recognizes 2020 Scholarship Winners

PSI Applauds 2020 Scholarship Winners

Before beginning to raise funds for its 2021 scholarship program, the PSI Chapter wants to recognize the 2020 scholarship winners once again for their academic accomplishments.

This year, nine students—all children of employees at PSI member companies—won $2,000 scholarships to apply toward college tuition for the 2020-2021 academic year.

This year’s scholarship winners, along with their sponsoring ISRI/PSI Chapter member company/location and the school they will attend, are as follows:

Michael Altobelli, Pratt Industries (Staten Island, N.Y.); University of Connecticut (Storrs, Conn.). In high school, Michael served as secretary of the National Honor Society and store manager of the DECA chapter. He played four years on his school’s football team (serving as captain his senior year) and its varsity lacrosse squad. Nathan Beers, PADNOS (Wyoming, Mich.); Grand Valley State University (Allendale, Mich.). In addition to being an outstanding chemistry and math student, Nathan was a member of the National Honor Society. He also is an athlete, playing hockey and lacrosse, and he volunteers at Camp Geneva in Holland, Mich. He plans to study biochemistry in college. (Photo: Nathan Beers with his father Tim Beers.)

Madeline Buchheit, Graphic Packaging International (Middletown, Ohio); Miami University (Oxford, Ohio). Madeline’s scholarship essay described the environmental impact of single-use products and the need to protect resources by increasing the public’s knowledge of and support for recycling. John Hargrave, Graphic Packaging International (West Monroe, La.); Auburn University (Auburn, Ala.). John was a straight-A student, including numerous AP courses, and he was a member and leader of the school’s robotics team. He volunteered with the local police working on a reconnaissance robot, and he helped his school qualify for the national Quiz Bowl tournament. He plans to study chemical engineering in college. Stephen Klein, WestRock (Marietta, Ga.); University of North Georgia (Dahlonega, Ga.). In addition to excelling in biology and calculus in school, Stephen interned at both an orthopedics practice and a hospital in his area. He graduated in the top 5% of his class and plans to study biology in college, with hopes of later studying orthopedic medicine. (Photo: Stephen Klein and his father Stephen Klein Sr.)

John Lamb, Graphic Packaging International (Macon, Ga.); Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta) or Georgia State University (Atlanta). In addition to excelling in Latin, AP Economics, and AP Environmental Studies at The Academy for Classical Education in Macon, John was selected for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program in physics. Emily Reed, WestRock (Norcross, Ga.); University of Tennessee, Knoxville (Knoxville, Tenn.). Emily took 10 AP classes, plays viola, and ran track for four years at Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro, Tenn. She also took many courses in Vanderbilt University’s programs for talented youth. Patryk Szczepaniak, Pioneer Industries International (Itasca, Ill.); University of Illinois at Chicago (Chicago). In addition to earning a GPA over 4.0 and an ACT composite score of 35, Patryk was active in several high school and community programs, including cross country, track, math team, Scholastic Bowl, National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society, karate, Polish School, and peer tutoring. Skyler White, Graphic Packaging International (West Monroe, La.); University of Louisiana at Monroe (Monroe, La.). In addition to being the salutatorian in her graduating class, Skyler was a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also was a board member of her school’s Art Club and a member of its Foreign Language French Club. She plans to study biology and possibly veterinary science. (Photo: Skyler White.)
